Operation Safe Driver Week from July 9-15, 2023. During this focused week, law enforcement personnel will be vigilant in identifying drivers who engage in risky behaviors, with special attention given to those who exceed speed limits, particularly in construction zones, and those who are distracted behind the wheel.

Operation Safe Driver Week is an annual initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of speeding, particularly in construction zones, and combatting distracted driving. The campaign aims to improve the driving behaviors of both passenger vehicle and commercial motor vehicle drivers through educational programs, targeted traffic enforcement, and interactions with law enforcement.

Studies consistently show that speeding contributes to a significant number of crash-related deaths. Since 2008, speeding has been a factor in over a quarter of all fatal accidents. Speeding in construction zones poses an immense risk to both drivers and workers. By addressing this issue during Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement officers aim to curb dangerous speeding behaviors in these areas and ensure the safety of construction workers and drivers alike.

Additionally, distracted driving has become an alarming problem on our roads. In 2019 alone, distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,142 individuals. This form of reckless behavior poses a grave threat to everyone on the road. By highlighting the dangers of distracted driving and enforcing stricter penalties, Operation Safe Driver Week seeks to educate drivers about the importance of remaining focused and attentive while behind the wheel.

Throughout Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel will actively patrol the roadways, identifying and pulling over drivers who are speeding or displaying signs of distracted driving. These drivers may receive citations or warnings as part of the campaign’s efforts to promote safer driving practices.

Operation Safe Driver Week aims to reduce the number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities caused by these dangerous behaviors. By participating in this initiative, drivers can contribute to creating safer roadways for everyone.
