It’s always important to share the road and drive safely year-round. However, back to school brings an increase in traffic congestion and potential hazards. It is even more critical to be aware of your surroundings in school zones as kids head back to school.

Let’s keep these crucial safety reminders in mind:

  1. When the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, all traffic must come to a complete stop.
  2. Remember, the area within 10 feet of a school bus is the most critical zone for children’s safety.
  3. Maintain a safe distance to ensure they have enough space to enter and exit the bus securely.
  4. Passing a school bus that is stopped for loading or unloading children is illegal in every state across the nation.
  5. Stay vigilant, as children can be unpredictable and may not always be cautious around traffic hazards.
  6. If those bus lights are flashing, never attempt to pass the bus.
