National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. This year,  the United States Department of Transportation combined with local law enforcements and  launched the first-ever national advertising campaign to combat distracted driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 3,328 people were killed and 421,000 were injured in distraction-related crashes in 2012. Like drunk driving, or not wearing a seatbelt, distracted driving is just as dangerous.  Over 100,000 crashes alone are caused by texting and driving (itcanwait.com). This is one of the most common distractions, especially among young people. 75% of teens say that it is common for their friends to text and drive (itcanwait.com).
